Dave Morgan is a Southern California artist who has been working with local and exotic hardwoods for over 40 years. A combination of passion for woodturning and woodworking, plus years of experience have established him as a leader in this ancient handcraft. His expertise with a multitude of different styles and techniques has led him to undertake wildly differing projects. Everything from Native American Style Flutes to square-edged Sushi Plates, an 8 foot tall Cross for his church to miniatures. His experience with different woods and finishes means you can own heirloom quality pieces that will last through the years.
Dave's involvement with the Los Angeles Maritime Institute has allowed him to enjoy his love of woodworking as well as sailing. Nautical items and custom woodworking for boats and tall ships are some of Dave’s specialties.
He enjoys turning Christmas Ornaments, Beer Steins or Coffee Mugs, Whiskey Smokers, Vases, Bowls, Lidded Boxes, Belaying Pins, and creating Name Tags and Award Plaques. Another creation of his are the unique miniature “Collapsible Castles”.
Dave takes special orders for those who have a design in mind but don’t have a way to see it to fruition; and people with wood from a special tree in their lives who wish for mementos.
A highlight of his hobby was winning an award for a lathe-turned Cowboy Hat from the Sam Maloof Foundation.
“There is a real joy in bringing out the hidden beauty in an otherwise drab looking piece of wood. You may not be able to judge a book by its cover; but as you peel away the outer layers, a genuine and unique beauty begins to emerge -that’s when art happens.”
